Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Does QuikWallpaper automatically download wallpapers when I start the app?
Yes, by default! QuikWallpaper is configured to automatically download today's wallpaper when the app starts. This ensures you always have the latest wallpaper available. You can disable this behavior in Preferences → Auto Download Settings if you prefer manual downloads only.
How do I add my personal photos as wallpapers?
Click "Add Personal" in the menu bar interface, then select your photos. They'll be automatically added to your favorites collection and stored in your chosen directory on your Mac - nothing is uploaded anywhere! Supported formats include JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, and GIF.
Do I need to create accounts for the wallpaper sources?
Bing Daily: No setup required - works immediately.
NASA APOD: Requires a free API key from api.nasa.gov. Sign up takes 2 minutes and gives you access to NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day.
Pexels: Requires a free API key from pexels.com/api. Create a free account, then generate an API key to access thousands of high-quality photos.
Where are my wallpapers stored?
All wallpapers are stored locally on your Mac in directories you can customize in Preferences. Default locations are in your user folder under QuikWallpaper directories. Nothing is uploaded to the cloud or our servers. You can change storage paths in Preferences → Storage Settings.
Features & Usage
How does auto-rotation work?
Enable auto-rotation in Preferences and set your preferred interval (every 5 minutes to 24 hours). You can choose to rotate through all wallpapers or favorites only. The rotation happens automatically in the background, so your desktop always has fresh content without any manual intervention.
What's the difference between "All Wallpapers" and "Favorites Only" mode?
"All Wallpapers": Includes everything you've downloaded from Bing, NASA, and Pexels.
"Favorites Only": Rotates only through wallpapers you've marked with the heart icon, including your personal photos. Perfect for cycling through your curated collection of preferred images.
Can I schedule automatic downloads?
Yes! Set up scheduled downloads in Preferences → Download Options to automatically get fresh wallpapers at specific times each day. Choose any hour and minute, and QuikWallpaper will download new content in the background. You can also enable "catch-up downloads" to get missed wallpapers if your Mac was asleep during the scheduled time.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
⌘? - Open Help & Support window
Menu bar controls: Use arrow keys to navigate between wallpapers when the menu is open. All other controls are accessible via the menu bar interface for quick access.
How do I quickly delete wallpapers I don't like?
One-click delete: While browsing wallpapers in the menu bar, you'll see a delete button next to each wallpaper. Click it to instantly remove wallpapers you don't want.
Smart cleanup: The app prevents re-downloading the same wallpaper if you delete it, so you won't see it again in future downloads.
Bulk cleanup: You can also manage wallpapers by opening the wallpaper folder and deleting multiple files at once.
Technical Issues
I'm getting "corrupted wallpaper" messages. What's wrong?
This occasionally happens due to network issues or server problems when downloading. Don't worry - corrupted files are automatically removed, and you can simply try downloading again. It's not a problem with your Mac or the app.
NASA APOD or Pexels isn't working. What should I do?
Check your API key: Go to Preferences → API Keys and verify your keys are entered correctly.
Get NASA API key: Visit api.nasa.gov, click "Generate API Key", fill out the form (name, email, description), and copy the key.
Get Pexels API key: Visit pexels.com/api, create a free account, go to "Your API Keys", and generate a new key.
Still not working? Check your internet connection and try switching to Bing Daily temporarily.
The wallpaper downloaded but didn't change my desktop. Why?
Check Auto Change Setting: Go to Preferences → General and ensure "Auto Change Wallpaper" is enabled.
System Permissions: Make sure QuikWallpaper has permission to change your desktop background in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.
Manual Setting: You can always manually set any downloaded wallpaper by selecting it in the menu and clicking the set wallpaper button.
Downloads are failing. What can I try?
Check internet connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
Try different source: Switch to Bing Daily (works everywhere) if NASA or Pexels are having issues.
Check API keys: For NASA/Pexels, verify your API keys are valid and correctly entered.
Regional issues: Some regions may have better access to certain services.
Firewall/VPN: Check if firewall or VPN settings are blocking downloads.
The app isn't starting or responding. How do I fix it?
First try: Quit and restart the app completely.
Force quit: Use Activity Monitor to force quit if needed.
Restart Mac: A system restart often resolves temporary issues.
Reinstall: For persistent issues, delete and reinstall from the App Store.
Check macOS: Ensure you're running macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later.
Why isn't my wallpaper changing automatically during rotation?
Check rotation settings: Go to Preferences → Auto Rotation and ensure it's enabled with your preferred interval.
Favorites mode: If you're in "Favorites Only" mode, make sure you have wallpapers marked as favorites.
App running: QuikWallpaper must be running in the background for auto-rotation to work.
System permissions: Verify the app has desktop modification permissions.
Privacy & Data
What data does QuikWallpaper collect?
None! QuikWallpaper doesn't collect any personal information, usage analytics, or device data. Everything stays on your Mac.
Are my personal photos uploaded anywhere when I add them?
Absolutely not! When you add personal photos, they're copied to your chosen favorites directory on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to the internet, our servers, or any cloud service.
How are my API keys stored?
API keys for NASA and Pexels are stored securely in your macOS Keychain using Apple's encryption. They're only used to authenticate with those specific services.
Can I use QuikWallpaper offline?
You can browse and set wallpapers you've already downloaded while offline. However, downloading new wallpapers requires an internet connection.

Can I choose specific regions for Bing wallpapers?
Yes! In Preferences → Wallpaper Sources → Bing Settings, you can select different regions including:
• United States, United Kingdom, Canada
• Australia, Germany, France, Japan
• Many other countries and regions
Each region often features different daily wallpapers, so you can explore content from around the world!

• Bing Popular: 1-50 wallpapers (default: 10)
• NASA Recent: 1-30 images (default: 10)
• Pexels Photos: 1-80 photos (default: 20)

• 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours
• 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours
